There’s a new Skipper at McCovey Cove

That’s right a rookie at the helm of Slainte  Jim and Ann’s beautiful sail boat.

Jim and Ann are a close lacrosse family from Danville, Ca and asked me and the family to join them for a day of sailing. Being a Pisces I like swimming and other water activities and never had the opportunity to sail.

This was my second time sailing and first time at the helm. The sails were not flying as we were still in the estuary, but still a fun experience. I did have another opportunity while sailing, but taking pictures and sharing the helm was just as fun.

We left from the Alameda Estuary and headed to McCovey Cove for a BBQ. After dropping anchor we fired up the grill and popped a couple frosties. The San Francisco Fire boat did a drive by while we were enjoying the BBQ. I think we dropped anchor where Barry Bonds hit his 757 home run into the McCovey Cove where the Bonds Navy sits waiting for the opportunity to jump on the next money ball.

After a burger we hoisted the sails and dashed under the Bay Bridge on course for a fly by past Alcatraz and after reaching Treasure Island we made our way back to Alameda. On the way back the captain Jim S. allowed more of the rookies a opportunity to sail from the helm. What great day with great people.
